Anand Karaj.
Anand Karaj translates to "Blissful Union" in Punjabi. It is a sacred and meaningful event that reflects the Sikh values of equality, love, and unity. The families and friends of both the bride and groom traditionally gather in a Gurdwara or Sikh temple, for the Anand Karaj Sikhism marriage ceremony. Wedding parties and guests assemble together in the presence of the Guru Granth (The book of sacred scripture). Hymns are sung as men and boys sit to one side of a central aisle, and the woman and girls to the other. Everyone sits on the floor reverently with legs crossed and folded. At the end of the ceremony a sacred offering, similar to a sacrament, is served called Prasad (made of sugar, water, oil and wheat flour). This offering is received with hands folded open. It’s totally ok to politely decline; let the priest know by having your hands folded closed.

We welcome our guests to wear what they feel most comfortable in
Generally, the ceremony will be held in the morning, outdoors. Sunglasses are welcome so you don’t miss a thing! We also kindly ask you to be semi-formal this can include;
Men; Suits, sport coats and dress shirts are acceptable along with dress pants
Women; Dresses, skirts, pants and blouses
Wedding guests will be asked to cover their heads during the ceremony; we invite you to bring your own shawls, head coverings if you like. We will also be providing head coverings (similar to bandanas). You will also be seated on pillows, on sheets laid on the ground (chairs will be provided for those who cannot sit on the ground). We would advise a little stretch in your outfits to ensure your comfort ;) Check out this PINTEREST board for more inspo!
